about us
Black Film Club Chicago was born from a transformative conversation between Troy and a friend after watching a film. They recognized the need for a space where Black and BIPOC artists could gather to discuss their art and ideas freely. What began as intimate gatherings in Troy’s apartment soon evolved into a vibrant community.
During one of these early meetings, Troy reconnected with Chi, whose enthusiasm and vision made her a natural partner. When Troy’s original collaborator moved away, Chi stepped in, and the two joined forces to revive and grow the club into the thriving hub it is today.
Black Film Club Chicago enriches the city’s cultural landscape by fusing the nostalgic spirit of 90s poetry scenes with the intimate energy of after-school clubs. It’s a space where diverse perspectives are not just welcomed but celebrated. Here, art sparks critical conversations about life, and as Chi puts it: “We’ve created an environment where everyone’s voice matters—where even the unspoken finds space to be heard.”
The club draws inspiration from Chicago’s neighborhoods: the cultural renaissance of Bronzeville, the communal vibe of Logan Square, the vibrant energy of the West Loop, and the intellectual charisma of Hyde Park. Together, these influences shape a unique and multifaceted space that reflects the city's soul—a place for connection, creativity, and discovery.
